RideCharge
Mar 31, 2009 - For city dwellers, the search for a cab amid a downpour can be distressing. So can attempting to hail one in a snowstorm, at rush hour, when you're already 30 minutes late for work or when you're alone at night in a not-so-lovely part of town. Enter RideCharge, a new Web-based program that allows you to book a ride, track the taxi's progress to your location and pay the metered fare (and tip) using your mobile phone. And that's without ever having to flail your arm into oncoming traffic. The service is free, except for the $1.50 fee charged if you choose to pay your fare through RideCharge instead of directly to the cabbie. For those who'd like to simplify the process even further, a mobile application is available for iPhones, BlackBerrys and Windows Mobile.

For more information, visit www.ridecharge.com.

--Lauren Sherman

View the original article here: http://blogs.forbes.com/findoftheday/2009/03/ridecharge-.html
